Dia daoibh gach duine / Hello everyone!
It is a great pleasure for me to announce that there will be a seven day Irish language summer school in Bungendore, from 7 to 14 January 2022. Although this school is not being run by CILA, the CILA Committee is very much supportive of it. We believe these schools are of great benefit to the Irish-speaking and Irish-learning community in Australia. Particularly in the early stages of learning, a week of ongoing exposure to Irish will hammer home those basic words and phrases you need to secure a toehold on the language.
You should note that the school will be on a live-out basis, so the cost does not cover food and accommodation.
There will be many CILA members making a daily commute from Canberra, so in the lead-up to the school, we will look at forming car pools for those who are commuting.
We hope we see you all there in Bungendore!
Irish language classes will be held each day from Sunday to Friday in various locations around the village including:
St Mary’s Catholic Hall
St Mary’s Catholic Church
Bungendore School of Arts
10 Sparrow Close
Morning and afternoon tea will be provided each day.
Children are welcome, if they have an adult to supervise them.
The last session each afternoon will be an elective of choice facilitated by gaeilgieorí, who are willing to assist in subjects, which have a particular interest to them such as: tin whistle; bodhrán;
dancing etc.
Evening activities will be held in The Hall at St Mary’s Catholic Church with the last night of entertainment at a larger venue. Those who wish to kick on into the night can gather at the Carrington, where folk music sessions will provide some relaxation from a busy day.
Bungendore is a small village in walking distance to all locations
