Coming up at the NFSA

There are two upcoming events at the National Film and Sound Archives that may be of interest for CILA members and friends,

LIVING THE TRADITION: FILM & LIVE PERFORMANCE

Living the Tradition follows cellist and composer Ilse De Ziah as she  travels around Ireland to uncover the hidden secrets of a selection of Irish Airs.

Shot live on location, this documentary provides a fresh account of Irish music and culture.

This special screening will be followed by a 50-minute live performance by cellist Ilse De Ziah and guitarist Ian Date, featuring music from their debut album Here & There. The duo will present beautiful renderings of melodies interwoven with captivating improvisation that reflects their deep love of music and its traditions.

IRISH BLACK COMEDY: BRENDAN GLEESON & THE McDONAGH BROTHERS PASS

In time for St. Patrick’s Day, this series presents a uniquely Irish take on black comedy and drama. While the McDonagh brothers tackle provocative themes and often depict extreme violence, their writing and direction is permeated with an overarching sense of pathos and compassion – as well as a healthy dose of Irish humour. Brendan Gleeson is in his element, portraying highly complex, flawed characters who invite reflection on the nature of good and evil.
