As our seasons change and we approach winter here our family and friends in Ireland are welcoming the summer. What a good time to get together and share some entertainment, good food and company and maybe learn a bit more about Irish traditions, music and song.
Comhaltas Canberra Branch is part of an exciting promotion of Irish music and culture around Australia during May- June 2022, holding an Irish music and Cultural Weekend from Saturday 30 April 2022 to Sunday 1 May 2022 in the Canberra Irish Club.
On Saturday evening there will be an Irish dancing display at 6pm followed by a session in the Irish Club Club Cotter Room from 7-9pm, free and open to the public
Seven short workshops introducing traditional instruments have been scheduled from 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. There is a nominal fee of $6 ($5 for Comhaltas members) and booking is required in advance. Book Now. These workshops are perfect if you have been curious or interested in a traditional instrument for a while or already play and want to know more about improving.
We will have an Irish language promotion at 4pm on Sunday. This is free an open to people of all or no skill level.
The main event of the Comhaltas Canberra Branch celebrations is the Bealtaine Fire Festival!
This will be held on Sunday evening from 7pm to 9pm – $25 ($20 for Comhaltas members)
The night will include amazing live entertainment from Sian Brigid, Fire performer (who performed last year to great acclaim) and Mad Kelpie Playdate, as well as warming mulled wine and a hearty meal of Irish stew, tae and cake.

Before the end of June Comhaltas plan to have a Ceilidh in the Cotter Room at the Club. Details will be announced sometime in may..
Through Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE) Dublin, they have received funding from the Irish Government, Department of Foreign Affairs, Emigrant Support Programme to be part of an initiative promoting Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE) around Australia.
