Maidin Caife 2023

Friends of Ireland (Cairde na hÉireann) and Canberra Irish Language Association (CILA) held a morning of Maidin Caifé agus Ceol – Irish language, Conversation and Music at the Kaffeine Coffee Shop,Yass in September, 2023. With around 30 attendees this built on the much enjoyed Maidin Caife from 2022.

The first of its kind in Canberra! April 2019 saw a great gathering of Irish speakers in a relaxed and fun setting to catch up, converse, tell stories and play music As Gaeilge.

From Thursday 26th until Staurday the 28th of January (The Australia Day long weekend), CILA held it’s second Irish Summer School. Once again, this event welcomed new and experienced learners from around the country and locally in Canberra. In addition to our excellent teachers we also offered to nights of live local entertainment showcasing the TiN MuGs, Canberra Celtic Choir and the band Humbug.

We are very grateful to his Excellency Mr. Brendan O Caollai, the Ambassador for Ireland for presenting an opening address to the Scoil at the Embassy. Its an honor to have his support at our event.

The Canberra Irish Language Association aims to provide events and opportunities throughout the year where Irish speakers can get together in a fun atmosphere to use the language they have been learning. In September 2016 we held a bilingual Trivia night with great success. Questions were read As Gaeilge and then As Bearla to accommodate for all abilities and guests who had no Irish at all. Keep in touch on Facebook for other upcoming events.

Between Saturday 23rd of January and Tuesday the 26th (The Australia Day long weekend), the Canberra Irish Language Association held it’s first Irish Summer School, Scoil Teanga. This was an exciting opportunity to display the Irish culture in Canberra, re-connect with speakers across the country and make new friends. The Scoil Teanga was an exciting weekend full of language classes at various skill levels, craic, music, and Irish cultural activities. A Mass service was also offered as-Gaeilge.

We are very grateful to his Excellency Mr. Noel White, the Ambassador for Ireland for presenting an opening address to the Scoil at the Embassy. Its an honor to have his support at our event.
